Eating Disorders: Why Do Others Enjoy Food While Some Do Not

Disordered eating (e.g., Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge eating, PICA, restrictive or avoidant food intake, rumination disorder, purging) can cause unhealthy eating habits to develop.

Disordered eating might start with an obsession with food, body weight, or body shape which can affect any gender or race. However, young women and adolescents are reported to be most affected by disordered eating by the age of 20.

A few psychological and societal conditions for the cause of disordered eating can be perfectionism, impulsivity, exposure to Western ideals of beauty. The intrusion, severity, or disruption experienced in the daily lives or activities of a person with disordered eating vary.
